Executive Summary

The UK's accident and emergency services have been awarded a further £35 million ($51 million) to upgrade facilities under the modernisation programme of the National Health Service. Digital radiology workstations, surgical and resuscitation equipment and telemedicine facilities are among the items allocated to 45 casualty departments. The modernisation programme was launched in 1998 and is expected to be 90% complete by March this year.
