Boston Scientific and PercuSurge have begun a clinical trial in the US to evaluate the potential of a minimally invasive treatment for preventing stroke. Researchers will assess using Boston's Carotid Wallstent Monorail endoprosthesis in conjunction with PurcuSurge's Guardwire Plus distal protection system. The prospective study, called SHELTER (Stenting of High risk patients Extracranial Lesions Trial with Emboli Removal), is expected to enrol around 400 patients at 30 sites, says Boston of Natick, Massachusetts.
