Germany's federal ministry for education and research (BMBF) distributed some E2m ($2m) in awards at last week's Medica international medical device trade fair in Dusseldorf to eleven companies and institutes. The competition attracted 145 participating projects that were judged by a panel of international experts. Winners included a scientific team from the University of Jena, which developed a minimally invasive procedure to implant an aortic valve prosthesis. Prizes were also awarded in the field of intensive medicine and diagnostics.
