Executive Summary
The UK Department of Health last week signed the contract by which the private healthcare group BUPA will begin to operate its Redwood Hospital in Surrey for the exclusive use of the National Health Service. The deal sees the hospital turned into the first privately-operated fast-track Diagnosis and Treatment Centre (DTC) - one of around 20 that will be created by 2004, as part of government plans to increase throughput in key NHS areas.
