Dame Deirdre Hine, chair of the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI), is to remain in her post until the new health inspectorate is set up, the UK Department of Health announced today (September 9 2002). She was due to step down at the end of October 2002. The new Commission for Healthcare Audit and Inspection (CHAI) will require primary legislation and is not expected to be established before late 2003 or early 2004 (see Clinica No 1004, p 6).
