The two leading German doctors' associations have reacted furiously to suggestions by health minister Ulla Schmidt that that they are attempting block progress in the government's disease management programmes (DMPs), aimed at providing optimal care to the chronically ill. Both the federal association of statutory health insurance physicians (KBV) and the federal doctors chamber (BAK) have also taken exception to Ms Schmidt's claims in an interview in Handelsblatt that the pharmaceutical industry is behind the doctors' opposition.
