The risk of contracting intestinal cancer in Germany should fall by 70% with the introduction of routine, reimbursable coloscopy on October 1 2002. This is the prediction of the first comprehensive German study on the "prevention potential of precautionary endoscopic screening for colorectal carcinoma", carried out by the German centre for research on ageing (DZFA) at the University of Heidelberg.
