Executive Summary
The EU Health Council has given full support to the international collaboration taking place within the Global Harmonisation Task Force (GHTF). At the Council meeting on June 26, at which Commissioners David Byrne (Health and Consumer Affairs) and Erkki Liikanen (Enterprise) presented a range of conclusions on health issues, including on the role of medical devices, the importance of common global guidance was acknowledged. "There is a need to aim for a high level of health protection through co-operation and exchange of views with third countries and health organisations," the Council said.
