Executive Summary
The completion of the European Commission's report on the risk assessment of DEHP, a plasticiser employed in polyvinyl chloride, a material used in many medical devices, has been postponed. This is to give the authors time to review the just published US National Toxicology Programme study. The EU report is being drafted by the EU Scientific Committee on Toxicity and the Environment. Some environment and health pressure groups believe that plasticisers such as DEHP pose a serious risk to the environment and to patients.
