Executive Summary
The US FDA has cleared for sale a new version of Vascutek's Gelweave Valsalva graft for replacing and repairing the root of an aorta that has developed an aneurysm. Unlike conventional grafts, which are cylindrical, the Gelweave Valsalva is shaped so as to mimic the geometry and, therefore, blood flow patterns of the sinuses of Valsalva, a natural bulge situated close to the aortic valve at the base of the aorta, said Vascutek, a company of Centerpulse.
