Guidant seeks to expand VASOVIEW indication:

Guidant has begun a US trial to test the feasibility of using its VASOVIEW endoscopic vessel harvesting system in a new indication. The VASOVIEW system is currently indicated for saphenous vein harvesting in the leg. The new study is testing the device as a means of harvesting the radial artery in the arm. Radial arteries are accustomed to higher blood pressure than leg veins and may, therefore, prove more durable, says Guidant. The radial artery is currently harvested through a long incision from the elbow to the wrist. The expanded indication for the VASOVIEW system will allow it to be harvested through two 1-inch incisions on the arm.
