Some 1,000 hospital beds in Scotland should be freed this year for use by acute services, following the release last week of £15m ($22.3m) to improve throughput in priority healthcare areas. The funding, the second tranche of a £20m initiative launched this year, will be used to tackle delays in patient discharges to local care and cut avoidable admissions.
