Vision Sciences has gained US FDA 510(k) clearance for its new generation bronchoscope with Slide-On Endosheath system, which the firm claims represents an improved contaminant-free standard for flexible bronchoscopy. The disposable, single-use protective sheath isolates all of the patient-contact parts of the endoscope and is intended to avoid transferring any contaminants to the next patient. Use of the sheath means that no reusable components come into contact with the patient, says the Natick, Massachusetts firm.
