Tenet Healthcare is to offer Stony Brook, New York-based Viatronix' V3D virtual colonoscopy system for colorectal cancer screening under a three-year, preferred vendor agreement. The system reconstructs 3D views of the inside of the colon via a procedure that can take just 15 minutes, with no patient sedation or recovery time. Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in the US - around 148,000 new cases will be diagnosed in the US this year, with 57,000 people dying from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society.
