Executive Summary

Guidant's Japanese subsidiary is planning to introduce its new dual chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), Prism II, locally later this year, and says it expects to rival Medtronic for the top spot in this market sector. Both companies are already present in the single chamber ICD market, Guidant having launched its Mini IV single chamber device in Japan in August 2001 (see Clinica No 976, p 14).
