Executive Summary

Smith and Nephew (S&N) has gained US clearance to sell what it claims to be the first FDA-approved computer-assisted software that uses fluoroscopic imaging to guide total knee replacement operations. The technology, which is used with Medtronic's IntraOperative Navigation system to track the movements of the bones and instruments during surgery, could increase the accuracy of the procedure which may lead to less patient morbidity and quicker recovery, claims S&N.
