Mathematical model predicts diabetes risk:
This article was originally published in Clinica
A simple mathematical model that uses readily available clinical measurements could predict whether an individual is likely to develop type II diabetes as effectively as the standard glucose tolerance test, which is inconvenient and relatively expensive. The model, described in the Annals of Internal Medicine (April 16), uses information on a person's age, sex, ethnicity, and family history of diabetes and clinical factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and body weight.
