The UK Department of Health has appointed Fiona Adshead as Deputy Chief Medical Officer, with responsibility for public health in England. Her roles will include helping to develop policies and implement programmes in areas ranging from cancer and heart disease prevention to sexual health. She will oversee the regional development of public health. Dr Adshead is currently director of public health at Camden PCT in London. She is due to take up her appointment in early 2004.
