Executive Summary
Reading, UK-based device company Gyrus Group has paid E5.5m ($6.3m) to acquire Explorent (Tuttlingen, Germany), which sources and distributes instruments used in ear, nose and throat surgery. The company operates worldwide through distribution partners, and had revenues of E5.5m in 2002. Gyrus says the deal will give it a platform from which to expand in the German market. It will also be able to cut costs by having its own source of reusable surgical instruments, which it currently purchases from third parties.
