Bahrain to introduce pre-marital disease screening

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Bahrain's parliament yesterday decided to introduce compulsory pre-marital health checks to combat hereditary and communicable disease. MPs voted in favour of the cabinet-drafted law after being given assurances that the results of any such tests would remain confidential and that couples would be not banned from marrying should any disease be diagnosed. The law is aimed at giving couples freedom of choice.
