Executive Summary
The Italian health ministry has launched the first Italian edition of Clinical Evidence. The Italian medical device industry opposes "top down" medical technology procurement policies, such as those based on the clinical- and cost-effectiveness assessments of the UK's National Institute for Clinical Excellence. It seems inevitable, however, that Italy, like other countries, will increasingly need to rely on such evidence to guide - and explain - each region's clinical policy-making.
