Laparoscopic and open adrenal mass surgery cleared by NIH (National Institutes of Health)

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Both open or laparoscopic surgery are acceptable procedures for removing adrenal masses, an expert panel convened by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has decided. The panel of 12 experts was convened by NIH to consider the state of the science in treating so-called "incidentalomas," tumours discovered on the adrenal glands in the course of diagnostic testing or treatment for other clinical conditions. Before the advent of sophisticated new imaging technologies, the tumours typically went undetected.
