Executive Summary
Hospitals and doctors in the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have established a telemedicine network with the aim of improving breast cancer care. "We know that in the areas of prevention, diagnostics, therapy and post procedural care Germany does not comprehensively match international standards," said experts from the Vorpommern tumour centre at the University of Greifswald. Effective breast cancer care will now be channelled through a new cross-disciplinary centre, which has passed the certification programme for quality assurance set up according to guidelines laid down by the German cancer society and the German senology society. The telemedicine network will be divided into telepathology, teleradiology and teleconference sections and will be operational by the end of 2003.
