The UK's National Patient Safety Agency has appointed Peter Furness to advise on improving safety in pathology. He joins 12 other Clinical Specialty Advisors appointed jointly by the NPSA and the relevant Royal College to promote patient safety in their speciality areas. The NPSA is planning to issue safety guidance on a range of issues over the next year. Professor Furness is professor of renal pathology at the University of Leicester and honorary consultant histopathologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
