The UK Gene Therapy Advisory Committee (GTAC) yesterday (September 3 2003) appointed Dr Richard Ashcroft, senior lecturer in medical ethics at Imperial College London, and Dr Adrian Lepper as lay members. The appointments bring GTAC in line with the membership requirement for research ethics committees of the new Clinical Trials Regulations, which come into force in May 2004. GTAC was established in 1993 to oversee the ethical aspects of gene therapy trials.
