The German government and opposition have finally reached a consensus agreement on reforming the health service. The draft proposals are aimed at granting patients more rights, improving overall quality and increasing efficiency in order to cut costs. The first reading of the healthcare reform law was scheduled to be discussed in the Bundestag (Lower House) in the first week of September. The government hopes the law will make speedy progress here so that it can be put before the Bundesrat (Upper House) at the end of the month, or by the first week of October at the latest.
