Danish counties increase PTCA (percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty) procedures:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The Danish county councils of S-nderjylland and Fyn have signed an agreement that will give patients increased access to balloon angioplasty (PTCA). Until now this procedure was only offered to the counties' residents at the Odense University Hospital, but the agreement ensures that PTCA of an equivalent standard can now be carried out at the Haderslev hospital. This is because the hospitals have agreed to set up a co-operative department for cardiology. The move comes despite the national ministry of health's recommendations to the counties that the number of individual heart centres be reduced.
