The row over state and federal funding of Australia's public hospitals is not abating. Health minister Senator Kay Patterson has urged the states to accept the federal government's "record" funding of Aus$42bn (US$28bn), an increase of Aus$10bn over the next five years and 17% above the current rate of inflation (see Clinica No 1057, p 14).
