Executive Summary
Medical device experts at the European Commission's Directorate General Enterprise are confident that they have now reached written agreement with Directorate General Health and Consumer Affairs (DG Sanco) over the text of the Communication on the review of the Medical Devices Directive. There is optimism now that Enterprise Commissioner Erkki Liikanen will present it shortly after the Easter break. DG Sanco had requested more references to public health concerns in the text during its opportunity to comment during interservice consultation (see Clinica No 1052, p 2). These have been swiftly integrated into the document, which now includes references to public health initiatives and programmes.
