The French healthcare products safety agency, AFSSAPS, has published on its website a listing of those zirconium ceramic femoral hip implant heads, manufactured by Saint Gobain Ceramique Avancee Desmarquest, that have ruptured. It is estimated that some 55 manufacturers and distributors of hip implants may be affected because they deal with products that have incorporated the implant heads. The affected implants have all ruptured between 16 and 46 months after being implanted
