The World Health Organization (WHO) has set up a network of 11 laboratories to test and monitor the global spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), after issuing a global alert earlier this week. The number of confirmed cases today (March 20 2003) exceeded the 300 mark, according to the WHO, with 173 confirmed in Hong Kong, 62 in Vietnam, 34 in Singapore and 20 in North America. To date, 10 deaths have been confirmed as associated with this SARS outbreak.
