UK devices industry mourns ministerial resignation:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The UK medical devices industry was an early casualty of the tensions over Iraq, with the resignation on Tuesday (March 18 2003) of Lord Philip Hunt, parliamentary under-secretary of state for health. The Association of British Health-Care Industries (ABHI) greeted the news with dismay, only weeks away from the launch of a major industry initiative, still under wraps, in which Lord Hunt was understood to be a key supporting figure. He will be missed for his involvement in domestic industry affairs, where he was seen as a charismatic and knowledgeable voice in support of increased access to medical technology and a positive link with the government. His ministerial portfolio included responsibility for the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).
