The US FDA has given Bausch & Lomb the green light to market its Technolas 217A excimer laser system for correcting hyperopia. The device, which is already approved to perform LASIK for the correction of myopia, can now be used to perform LASIK surgery in individuals with hyperopia up to +4.00 dioptres, with or without astigmatism. Around 15% of people who require vision correction in the US are farsighted, says the Rochester, New York firm.
