Executive Summary

Contrary to the wishes of the German Liberal Party (FDP), the Bundestag (Lower House) last week agreed to reinstate the enquiry commission for "rights and ethics in modern medicine". The move has been welcomed by VdK, the largest organisation for the handicapped and the socially disadvantaged, which demanded that the commission speak out in favour of a ban on pre-implantation diagnostics (PID).
