Executive Summary
A world-renowned tissue engineering researcher, Dr Robert Nerem, has joined the staff of the US National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering as a senior advisor on a part-time basis. Dr Nerem will be responsible for keeping staff abreast of new advances in the field, identifying research areas of emphasis, mentoring junior staff and helping establish an intramural programme for the two-year-old institute. He is currently the director of the Parker H Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences at Georgia Institute of Technology and director of the Georgia Tech/Emory Center for the Engineering of Living Tissues.
