Executive Summary
Horizon Medical Products has launched in the US a haemodialysis catheter that it claims provides significant improvements over rival products. The LifeJet F-16 catheter features a patented arc-shaped septum that allows it to move more blood at a lower pressure with more efficiency than current dialysis catheters, claims the Atlanta, Georgia firm. It also incorporates a distal tip designed to help resist fibrin sheath formation, a common and costly complication associated with conventional haemodialysis catheters, says Horizon. The device is also approved for use as an apheresis catheter and targets a market worth well over $100m, the firm adds.
