Executive Summary
The majority of representatives on Germany's national ethics council (NER) are in favour of allowing pre-implantation diagnostics (PID) and prenatal diagnostics (PND) in exceptional circumstances. Last week in Berlin the council released its official statement on "genetic diagnostics before and during pregnancy". Two-thirds of the 24-member council declared themselves in favour of limited PID, with the other third firmly against, and recommended that a clause to this effect be included in a comprehensive law on medical reproduction.
