Executive Summary
750 additional hospitals have applied to join the German diagnosis related groups (DRG) system for hospital reimbursement after the government extended the membership deadline to December 31 2002. Should they succeed in their membership applications, this would bring the total number of hospitals making cost calculations in line with the new system to 1,270, more than doubling the 520 that opted to join before the initial deadline of October 31 2002.
