Executive Summary
Chiron and Gen-Probe have gained the go-ahead to sell a fully automated blood screening system in Europe. Under a partnership between both firms, the Procleix Ultrio assay for simultaneously detecting HIV-1 and the hepatitis B and C viruses in specimens from donated blood, plasma, organs and tissue can now be marketed for use on the high-throughput Procleix Tigris system. Gen-Probe says that it expects the European launch of the system and assay to be an important growth driver for the San Diego, California-based company in 2005.
