The US FDA has cleared for sale a 14-frame version of Given Imaging's ingestible PillCam ESO video capsule for visualising the oesophageal mucosa. As part of the clearance, the agency also sanctioned the firm's new software, called RAPID 3, which includes a number of features and enhancements. The clearance allows the firm to receive the first milestone payment from Ethicon Endo-Surgery amounting to $10m, said the Yoqneam Israel company. This amount will be recorded on a straight line over the 15-year life of the agreement as a reduction in marketing expenses.
