Executive Summary
US researchers have identified a gene, called OPAI, that they believe is linked to the development of Beehive Syndrome, a rare eye disease that causes optic nerve degeneration, loss of eye movement and deafness. Lead researcher, Dr Khang Zhang, of the John A Morgan Eye Center in Utah hopes the gene will help improve diagnosis of the condition. The study appears in the American Journal of Ophthalmology (November).
