MCAC: Weight-loss surgery "has benefits beyond obesity control"

A Medicare advisory panel last week decided that there is solid medical evidence to demonstrate the benefits of weight-loss surgery. Obese patients who undergo gastric bypass surgery and other procedures not only lose a significant amount of weight, the panel determined, but also see marked improvement in weight-related medical conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
