Medtronic adds anastomosis technology to surgical line

Medtronic has acquired two new cardiac surgical technologies - the U-Clip and Spyder anastomatic devices - from Coalescent Surgical, a privately-held Californian developer of novel connective technologies. The transaction, of which the financial terms were not disclosed, should further boost the company's heart business which produced a somewhat disappointing first quarter performance overall despite a star turn by its implantable defibrillator business.
