Mexico OKs first high-intensity focused ultrasound technology

Mexico has given the go-ahead for the country's first use of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), with the market approval of the Sonablate 500 system for treating prostate cancer. The system, developed by Focus Surgery (Indianapolis, Indiana) and manufactured by Misonix (Farmingdale, New York), will be used to help tackle the country's significant mortality from the disease.
