France: new tool to regulate payment of medical procedures

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

A new classification system for the reimbursement of the medical procedures by the French social security is due to come into force on October 1. Known as the common classification of medical procedures (CCAM), its availability will represent a milestone in the development of a more detailed approach to analysing and assessing the real costs of medical procedures and ensure, for the first time, that the same reimbursement rates apply in both the public and private sectors.
