The US FDA has approved for sale Ophtec USA's capsular tension ring (CTR) for stabilising the eye's capsular bag during cataract surgery involving the implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL). The StabilEyes CTR provides secondary capsular bag support, which is helpful when the integrity of the patient's capsular bag is, or might become, compromised during IOL implantation. The device will be sold in the US, Canada and Mexico by Advanced Medical Optics. Ophtec USA, a subsidiary of Groningen, the Netherlands-based Ophtec, has been manufacturing CTRs under the Oculaid brand outside of North America for over 10 years.
