Executive Summary
Comptroller General of the US, David Walker, has appointed three new members to the US Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), for three years. These are: John Bertko, vice-president and chief actuary for Humana, a health benefits company; Francis Crosson, executive director of the Permanente Federation; and health policy consultant William Scanlon. Two members have been re-appointed - Sheila Burke and Ralph Muller. The 17-member independent federal body was established by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 to advise the US congress on issues affecting the Medicare programme.
