Executive Summary
The UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is to fully launch its Safety Alert Broadcast system (SABs) on Monday, April 26. Under the new system, which was piloted earlier this year, all Medical Device Alerts (MDAs) will be issued electronically to NHS Trusts and Primary Care Trusts. Immediate-grade alerts will be sent using the fastfax system, followed by a hard copy. Action-grade alerts will continue to be issued in hard copy until NHS providers become used to the new system. The MHRA has organised a series of workshops to explain the new system to NHS Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities.
