Nanomedicine-related developments must be presented to the wider community in a realistic way - without recourse to hype. If not, there is the risk of backlash among a public brought up on a diet of science fiction nanoimages, the European Science Foundation's European Medical Research Councils (EMRC) warn in their newly-released Forward Look Report. The media must be handled "intelligently and with caution", stress the authors of the report, adding that, for many, the term nanomedicine could be "almost incomprehensible" to the general public.
