Varian Medical Systems has received US FDA 510(k) clearance to incorporate a proton therapy eye dose calculation software on its Eclipse system for planning radiation therapies for cancer. The software enables doctors to create the highly complex treatment plans necessary for precisely delivering proton radiation beams to ocular cancers, while maximising protection for the many small, critical structures in and around the human eye, said the Palo Alto, California firm.
